Heat wave latest: How long the dangerous temperatures will last
Dangerously high temperatures are hitting 14 states across the Midwest and Northeast on Wednesday as an unrelenting heat wave continues. Record highs were shattered in the Northeast on Tuesday, including a scorching 97 degrees in Manchester, New Hampshire, and 94 degrees in Scranton, Pennsylvania. On Wednesday, temperatures are forecast to soar to 94 degrees in Detroit and Pittsburgh; 95 degrees in Syracuse, New York; 93 degrees in Boston; and 97 degrees in Concord, New Hampshire.

Environmental protesters spray 'orange powder paint' on Britain's Stonehenge
Environmental protesters sprayed an orange substance across part of Britain's Stonehenge on Wednesday afternoon. British environmental activist group Just Stop Oil posted video of the incident on the social media platform X, showing two of its supporters spraying three of the stones within the prehistoric megalithic structure on Salisbury Plain in southern England's Wiltshire county. Wiltshire Police confirmed in a statement Wednesday that its officers responded to the scene at Stonehenge and "arrested two people on suspicion of damaging the ancient monument."

As Election Day nears, battleground states like Florida, Arizona and Michigan are taking the spotlight in the presidential race. Political experts and analysts, however, say a traditionally blue state could disrupt the balance of power in Congress. Several House seats in New York state are up for grabs this election with Democrats and Republicans eyeing to flip seats in Long Island, Westchester County and upstate, particularly in districts that went red during the 2022 midterms, according to experts.

Witness tells House Ethics Committee that Matt Gaetz paid her for sex: Sources
In recent weeks, House Ethics Committee investigators have conducted a string of interviews behind closed doors with numerous women who were witnesses in the yearslong Justice Department sex trafficking investigation into Rep. Matt Gaetz, multiple sources familiar with the committee's work tell ABC News. Investigators have interviewed at least half a dozen women who allegedly attended parties where the Florida congressman was also present and who were paid by Joel Greenberg, Gaetz's one-time close friend. Greenberg was sentenced in 2022 to 11 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges including sex trafficking a minor and introducing the minor to other "adult men," sources tell ABC News.

There may be an increase in COVID cases this summer. Experts say this is why you shouldn't be concerned
As the United States heads into the summer season, early indicators show the country is likely to experience an increase in COVID-19 infections. For the week ending June 8, the latest date for which data is available, COVID test positivity was 5.4% across the U.S., an increase of 0.8% from the previous week, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In the Western region -- which is comprised of Arizona, California, Hawaii and Nevada -- COVID test positivity was 12.8%, higher than any other region of the U.S. The New England region -- made up of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont -- had the next highest test positivity rate at 5.4%, matching the national rate.

Mom helps save daughter's vision by noticing cloudiness in her eyes while breastfeeding
Brandee Artale was breastfeeding her newborn daughter late last year when, she said, she noticed something different in her daughter's eyes. Artale and her husband, Andrew, took their daughter, Madison, to their pediatrician, who referred them to Dr. Paul Rychwalski, a pediatric ophthalmologist and chief of ophthalmology at Children’s Nebraska. After a nearly nine-month journey that has included three surgeries, Rychwalski credits the Artales' quick action after noticing something was off in Madison's eyes with helping to save their daughter's vision.

Approximately 5,000 people have been evacuated in New Mexico on Tuesday as crews battle two wildfires that have spread across 20,000 acres, officials said. Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham declared a state of emergency as the dual South Fork Fire and Salt Fire have spread with 0% containment as of Tuesday afternoon. Evacuation orders are in effect for three counties in the state: Mescalero, Otero and Lincoln, Grisham said during a Tuesday press conference.

Justin Timberlake arrested, charged with DWI in the Hamptons
Singer Justin Timberlake has been arrested and charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated in the Hamptons, according to police. Timberlake drove through a stop sign and swerved into a lane of oncoming traffic at 12:37 a.m. Tuesday, according to Sag Harbor Village police. When police pulled him over, they said Timberlake "was operating his vehicle in an intoxicated condition," according to police.

Boeing CEO David Calhoun apologized to the families of victims of previous plane crashes involving the company's planes, including the 737 Max, before being grilled by senators Tuesday during a hearing on Capitol Hill. Sen. Club Q mass shooter sentenced to life in prison on federal hate crime charges
The shooter who killed five and injured over a dozen more at an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in 2022 accepted a plea deal Tuesday in connection with federal hate crimes charges and was given 55 concurrent life sentences. Aldrich initially pleaded not guilty. United States District Judge Charlotte N. Sweeney accepted the plea agreement, sentencing Aldrich to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole, to be followed by a 190-year sentence of imprisonment.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived on a state visit to Pyongyang, and was met at the airport by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. In the history of bilateral relations between Russia and North Korea, this is just the second visit by the head of the Russian state. Putin also made the first visit by a Russian leader to Pyongyang in 2000.
