How Many Dungeons Come With Witch Queen? - ExpertBeacon (2024)

To clearly answer the main question right away – The Witch Queen expansion for Destiny 2 includes access to two new dungeons released over the course of Year 5. One dungeon – Duality – launched in Season 17, while the second dungeon – Spire of the Watcher – launched later in Season 19.

As a hardcore Destiny 2 player myself, I was eagerly anticipating what new dungeon challenges and loot Bungie would include as part of the Witch Queen expansion and its seasons. In this article, I‘ll provide some deeper insights into what these two dungeons offered, how you can access them, and their value as endgame PvE activities.

An Overview of The Witch Queen Expansion

But first, let‘s recap what the The Witch Queen included at a high level:

  • New Throne World destination to explore with new public events, lost sectors, secrets
  • The Witch Queen campaign featuring Savathun and Lucent Brood enemies
  • Vow of the Disciple raid set in Savathun‘s pyramid
  • Weapon crafting system allowing deep customization of certain weapons
  • New Void 3.0 subclass rework

The Witch Queen delivered new story content, weapons, and some massive quality-of-life changes that the Destiny community had been hoping for. And the inclusion of additional dungeons as endgame activities was something for hardcore PvE players like myself to sink our teeth into.

The Duality Dungeon – Launched Season 17

Duality was the first new dungeon included in Year 5, available to all Witch Queen Deluxe Edition owners instantly with Season 17. Set in the darkest corners of Emperor Calus‘s mind, this dungeon brought back the unpredictable and eccentric former Cabal emperor as a key antagonist.

Here‘s a quick glimpse into what Duality offered:

  • Bosses: Gahlran cosplay Calus, bellkeeper nightmare enemies
  • Mechanics: Cunning reflections puzzle mirror dimension rooms
  • Loot: Artifice armor, multiple weapon drops (Epicurean, Fixed Odds, Unforgiven)

I particularly enjoyed the mind-bending mirror puzzles and dimension-shifts that really embodied the erratic nature of Calus. Definitely a creative and challenging dungeon overall!

Spire of the Watcher Dungeon – Launched Season 19

The second dungeon, Spire of the Watcher, arrived later in Season 19. Thematically it centered around pinned-down Cabal Red Legion scouts trying to analyze the Drifter‘s mysterious relic on Neomuna.

Here‘s what it entailed:

  • Bosses: Arkborn, Secutor Sedia, Halphas Electus mini-bosses
  • Mechanics: Relic energy slam puzzles and coordination
  • Loot: Off-brand Red Legion cosmetics, weapon drops (BxR-55 Battler, Accrued Redemption)

I loved the Roman Legionnaire theme and 22nd century Neomuna locales. My fireteam had a blast figuring out the relic-passing coordination during the intense final boss fight!

So in summary, The Witch Queen delivered two memorable dungeons with engaging themes, loot, and locations that were on par with some of Destiny‘s best endgame content.

How to Access The Witch Queen Dungeons

Now for the key question around access – how can you play these two dungeons? There are a couple options:

Option 1: The Witch Queen Deluxe Edition

Purchasing the Deluxe Edition of The Witch Queen for $79.99 included the expansion itself along with four seasons‘ worth of content, including instant access to both Duality and Spire of the Watcher dungeons.

This is definitely the best value, and what I went with as a Destiny enthusiast to get all the content upfront.

Option 2: Purchase the Separate Witch Queen Dungeon Key

For players who bought just the Standard Edition of Witch Queen, they can still gain access to the dungeons by picking up the separate Witch Queen Dungeon Key available on the Eververse store for 2000 Silver. This unlocks both dungeons for all characters on an account.

2000 Silver translates to about $20 worth of premium currency. Not a terrible price just for the dungeons themselves considering the hours of added gameplay and loot they provide.

Are The Dungeons Worth It?

For Destiny players obsessed with endgame PvE challenges, I believe getting the full Witch Queen deluxe experience with the dungeons is absolutely worthwhile. They represent some of the most entertaining and rewarding 3-player activities in Destiny right now.

The dungeons aren‘t overly long, probably 60-90 minutes each, but offer intense boss encounters you‘ll want to grind out for materials and weapon/armor drops. And having limited matchmaking, they‘re an ideal activity for you and a couple friends to take on together.

Between the two Year 5 dungeons, we got a nice mix of nostalgic Cabal themes along with tantalizing glimpses of the futuristic Neomuna setting. So in terms of world-building lore alone, they‘re quite valuable as well from my perspective as an avid Destiny narrative fan.

Not to mention the excellent weapons and armor you can acquire, like Accrued Redemption or the Epialos Following mark!

A Look Ahead to Destiny 2: Lightfall

As we anticipate Destiny 2‘s next major expansion, Lightfall, releasing on February 28th, 2023, we know another two all-new dungeons are slated to launch over the next year. Few details have been revealed by Bungie yet, but they will follow a similar model to The Witch Queen:

  • Access with the Lightfall Deluxe Edition purchase
  • Or buy the separate Lightfall Dungeon Key for 2000 Silver

Many Destiny content creators, myself included, have expressed concerns over this piecemeal approach to dungeon monetization. But based on the consistent quality delivered in Year 5, I remain hopeful the Lightfall dungeons will deliver fun and creative experiences for us PvE players.

And who knows, perhaps we‘ll get to battle The Witness itself in the mysterious depths of those Pyramid dungeons…one can dream!

Either way, as a dedicated Destiny 2 gamer, I highly recommend all players experience the superb Duality and Spire of the Watcher dungeons from The Witch Queen era. The weapons alone are worth hunting down for PvP and PvE.

I hope this complete overview gives you some helpful guidance on what The Witch Queen dungeons have to offer and whether they are worth your precious time and money, dear reader. Let me know in the comments if you have any other questions!
