In the midst of the farmers' protests, our Partner Natagora was unexpectedly targeted by the Belgian Minister of Agriculture, Willy Borsus, both on television and during a protest, accusing them of negatively impacting agriculture.He urges Natagora and others to stop buying land for nature reserves, claiming it hampers farmers. This statement is surprising given that Wallonia lags behind European goals for protecting natural spaces, which Natagora actively supports with financial aid from the regional government.The creation of nature reserves by Natagora does not harm farmers! Instead, it involves collaboration with over 250 independent farmers, contributing to the protection of biodiversity-rich habitats and aiding in the facilitation of young farmers' installations. And as we all know, without nature, we do not have the ability to produce food. It's a win-win for people, our planet, and farmers! The accusation is clearly a political manoeuvre to divert attention from the real problems. Politicians don't have the courage to take the necessary actions in the face of climate change. Instead, they look for scapegoats, and environmental NGOs have become easy targets.
