Lily Allen admits she joined the mile high club with iconic musician after 'seven hour' fling (2024)

Although it's not exactly as glamorous as a private jet, even us mere mortals travelling on a two-hour flight with a budget airline may have considered joining the mile high club at least once.

There must be something about hurtling through the air at hundreds of miles per hour on an aircraft that really gets us going, for some reason.

Crying kids, someone battering the door down of the bathroom and an announcement to expect severe turbulence must be a right mood killer though - but luckily for Lily Allen, she didn't have to worry about our kind of plane problems.

The singer-songwriter revealed she once had a 'seven hour' fling with a musician who many of us know and love after bumping into him in the airport lounge.

It has the essence of the plot of a smash-hit romcom, but sadly this didn't have a hollywood ending.

Allen previously opened up about the details of her induction into the mile high club in her 2018 memoir titled My Thoughts Exactly, where she dished the dirt on her liaison above the clouds with none other than Liam Gallagher.

She explained that she was heading to Japan for the Fuji Rock Festival in 2009 when she ran into the Oasis frontman, 51, in the airport lounge, where they got chatting.

The pair then got 'hammered' on the plane after boarding, before things all got a bit frisky after the seatbelt signs went off.

Writing in her autobiography, Allen explained: "At some point Liam and I found ourselves together in the toilet doing something that he shouldn’t have been doing, and it wasn’t drugs. Then we were in a lie-down bed together."

According to Allen, their drunken tryst didn't end there, as the Manchester rocker asked her to join him at his hotel when they eventually touched down in Tokyo.

Discussing how she ended up joining the mile high club during an appearance on The Big Narstie Show in 2019, the Smile singer said it was simply a 'seven hour' fling rather than a full-blown romance.

She gingerly told hosts Big Narstie and Mo Gilligan: "You know, we met in the lounge before we got on the plane and you know, got quite drunk and then... yeah."

When quizzed about who made the first move, the 39-year-old then hilariously responded: "It was the Champagne Supernova in the sky!"

Although Allen was able to look back and laugh at her encounter with Gallagher, she wasn't amused when she found out the next day that he was married to All Saints hitmaker Nicole Appleton.

She explained in My Thoughts Exactly: "It wasn't until when he said something like, ‘No one can hear about this because of Nic,’ that I clocked he was married.

"I knew Noel was married and I knew Liam had been married to Patsy Kensit.

"That was partly why I fancied him. I’d grown up an Oasis fan. I was 12 when he and Patsy Kensit were on the cover of Vanity Fair as the coolest couple."

Although she claims Gallagher begged her to keep their plane-ride of passion a secret, Allen says the truth ended up coming out around six months later.

Appleton remained married to the Supersonic singer until 2013, after it was revealed that he had fathered a daughter with US journalist Liza Ghorbani.

Allen, on the other hand, was in a relationship with Sam Cooper from July 2009 and welcomed their two daughters into the world after tying the knot in 2011.

She announced they had divorced in 2018, two years after they had officially parted ways.
