Newark man killed in motorcycle crash A 22-year-old Newark man died early Tuesday after he and a passenger were thrown from his motorcycle on Delaware Route 1 near Bethany Beach. Scott W. Banks, of 5 Martin Drive, died shortly after the 2:04 a.m.

Spurgeon Barber Jr. ELKTON, Md. Spurgeon Barber 61, of 1898 E. Old Philadelphia Road, died Monday of an intestinal hemorrhage in Union Hospital. Mr.

Barber was owner and operator for 20 years of Barber Construction a subcontracting and plastering firm in Elkton. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Post 7687, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Chesapeake City, and Lodge 851, Loyal Order of Moose. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Agnes; two sons, Spurgeon III of North East and Franklin J. of Elkton; four daughters, Mary Agnes Melton of Englewood, Paula M.

Hertzberg worked at the Du Pont Co. in Wilmington for 43 years, retiring in 1964. Her husband, retired Army Maj. Louis Hertzberg, died in 1983. There are no immediate survivors.

Pineda's car struck another car, which slid 133 feet into a utility pole, police said.
